About the TOMA course
The Other MA (TOMA) is an 18-month artist-run education model based in Southend-on-Sea supporting artists who have faced barriers accessing art education and the ‘art world’. TOMA was set up in 2016 to offer responsive, affordable, accessible art education to artists. It is currently the only postgraduate level art programme in Essex after all others were stopped by their host Universities. TOMA is unaccredited in the traditional sense, but provides a programme of learning that will benefit artists in the same way. We are looking for a new cohort of 12 artists to join TOMA for 2022.

About Nick Kaplony
Nick Kaplony is Senior Programme Coordinator at Artquest, an organisation that uses research about visual artists working conditions, career barriers, and motivations to develop the professional information, advice and projects that they need. At Artquest Nick is responsible for projects that focus on artist peer mentoring, research residencies and more recently more equitable selection processes for artists opportunities.
Outside of Artquest Nick has worked as gallery manager at the Pump House Gallery, Assistant Curator at the Arts Gallery London (at the University of the Arts London) and has worked as a freelance artist / curator. He is part of the artists’ collective Dust Architects and his practice and curatorial projects consider ideas around family history, death and mourning. Nick has shown nationally with organisations such as Manchester City Gallery, MOT Projects, ASC studios, Core Gallery and Geddes Gallery and Barbican Projects.
