Fern Worsley
Fern Worsley is an artist and arts facilitator born in Scarborough, spent her formative years in London, now based in Southend on Sea. She graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art at University Centre South Essex College in 2021. Fern works at Focal Point Gallery and is Director of theblokhousestudio CIC, an artist-run studio and project space in Southend on Sea.
Fern’s work is process-led, embracing unexpected outcomes, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video, and performance, often repurposing materials, and existing art. Current work investigates the materiality of the body with found objects, through performance, depicting fictional female sea monsters; mutated creatures tangled with ocean detritus, which has uncovered links to ‘the patriarchal view of woman as victim’ (in critical writings on the horror film), based on theories found in The Monstrous Feminine, by Barbara Creed (1993).
