Patchwork Orchard 1 - 4 (2023) 28cm x 42 cm Home made apple wood charcoal, collage, apple branches.

Graham Burnett is an artist, permaculturist and community practitioner rooted in Southend on Sea.

Making mycorrhizal connections between culture, art and community. I'm currently exploring Southend's fruit growing heritage (of which only a tiny fragment remains), and questions of resilience, carbon capture and local food justice/security as we navigate a post-climate change, post-pandemic and post-Brexit bioregional landscape through my zine 'Glomalin' and work with various orchards.

Patchwork Orchard 1 - 4 is a  series of fruit tree portraits created using materials from local orchards and gardens, including homemade charcoal from apple tree prunings and macro-photography of Essex apples by James Ravinet. These artworks will connect with a larger project planting fruit trees and orchards in public places in Southend on Sea.
