‘Lomea (The Low Island)’ (2018-ongoing)

I explore liminal spaces and ancient settlements that have been impacted by water through submersion or emergence, creating sculptural work using material uncovered from these sites. I often incorporate archaic fabrication processes in my making, and write narratives based on the layered histories I uncover in my research. Many recent projects have utilised Kent mythologies, including travelling to the Goodwin Sands, in legend a former island, to collect sand for glass-making: excavating a reed boat, inspired by a Saxon saint, on Margate beach: and making a ceramic hoard in response to a lost medieval coastal village, now an inland field.
