Amy Ryall

Amy Ryall, Untitled, 2025, photographic print. Photography by Tessa Hallmann.

This self-portrait captures an intimate act of self-expression, confronting both historical constraints on women’s representation and contemporary pressures to present oneself as polished and idealised. Set in the gymnasium of the artist’s school, the work marks a full-circle moment—where personal history meets public space. This reflection signals a vulnerable shift in process, embracing play and relinquishing control—a rejection of societal expectations to present oneself as a perfect, packaged image of womanhood.
