Selena Chandler, Portrait of a Woman Brushing Her Hair, 2025, mixed Media, recycled materials. Installation dimensions variable; 3 parts, each 12 x 3 inches.
The space of an archive, a gallery, an exhibition. The absence of a girl. Interactions between living individuals. Portrait of a Woman Brushing Her Hair embodies these experiences and invites consideration of how representation can be found and made.
Biography
Selena is an artist-researcher rooted in Essex. Her work is concerned with social and political histories, the labour of craft and hand skills and connections between past and present. Working in response to the materials and stories of a place she baskets, weaves, knots, languages and moves. For the Beecroft exhibition, her work contains felt responses to an archival image and experiences of the curatorial and gallery processes. She is reflecting on mediated stories, what could be present yet is absent.
